It has an adjustable light so by pressing it, you can change the brightness. It allows you to easily see your work for either tracing or diamond art, etc. It is saving my eyes and the need for an outside light source! It is very light weight. Worth mentioning: the USB cord has to be plugged in for the box to function, there is no reserve power source. Just simply use a reserve power supply source and can work anywhere. It also does not come with a USB outlet connector but most of us have one sitting around the house. If you do not, you will need to purchase one as the unit cannot plug in straight to your wall.
You did order the large box intentionally if you wanted to be able to lay my entire project flat over the box. If your project is smaller than the box, the light coming from areas uncovered can be a bit much. A smaller box is not a bad idea if you are ok with moving your piece around. Something to think about. Something else to mention is that being so lightweight, it also appears pretty delicate. I keep mine in the box for now so it does not get damaged.
Overall, this was one of the most affordable light boxes for the size and it works perfectly after 6 uses so far.
