Chalcogenide glass possesses a wide infrared transmittance range (0.5 ~ 25 μm), low refractive index temperature coefficient (dn/dT), and low dispersion characteristics. Its glass composition and properties are continuously adjustable, making it one of the optimal candidate materials for preparing mid-infrared optical devices. Compared to other infrared materials such as germanium single crystal and zinc selenide (ZnSe) crystal, chalcogenide glass exhibits prominent advantages in resource utilization and manufacturing cost, with lower consumption of scarce resources like Ge. Most importantly, precision hot pressing technology can be employed for mass production of lenses, which boasts higher production efficiency and lower manufacturing costs compared to the single-point diamond turning process used for processing ZnSe crystals and Ge single crystals. Hot pressing technology enables chalcogenide glass to be manufactured into planar, spherical, and non-spherical optical materials, thus finding extensive applications in the infrared imaging and optoelectronic industries.
