What is common mode inductance？

How common mode inductors work？

The common mode inductor consists of two coils wound on a ferrite at the same time. The two coils have the same number of turns but the winding direction is opposite. When the interference signal (differential mode signal) flows through the coil, the magnetic field in the opposite direction will cancel out. However, when the common-mode signal passes through, the magnetic flux in the magnetic ring is superimposed on each other, which is equivalent to a relatively large inductance, and the coil presents a high impedance characteristic, resulting in a strong damping effect to suppress the common-mode current, and the final result is to suppress the common-mode signal without affecting the differential mode signal.

Common mode inductor applications.

Common-mode inductors have good suppression effect on common-mode electromagnetic interference signals, so they are used in many high-speed signal circuits of power supply circuits, especially switching power supply products
