Performance characteristics of common mode inductors
Common-mode inductors are a key component used to suppress common-mode noise in electronic circuit design. It usually consists of two coils of the same size and the same number of turns symmetrically wound on the same ferrite toroidal core to form a four-terminal device. Common-mode inductors present large inductance for common-mode signals and have a suppressive effect, while presenting very small leakage inductance for differential-mode signals and have almost no effect.
Working principle
The working principle of common-mode inductors is based on the mutual influence of electromagnetic induction and magnetic fields. When differential-mode current flows through the common-mode inductor coil, according to the right-hand screw theorem, the two magnetic fields generated cancel each other out, so the impedance to the differential-mode signal is very small. When the common-mode current flows, the two magnetic fields generated enhance each other, causing the coil impedance to increase, thereby attenuating the common-mode current. In this way, the common-mode inductor consumes the energy of the interference signal and achieves the effect of suppressing common-mode interference.
Performance characteristics
Common-mode inductors have high initial permeability, which makes it have large impedance and insertion loss under the geomagnetic field, and have excellent suppression effect on weak interference. It exhibits non-resonant insertion loss characteristics over a wide frequency range, has high saturation magnetic induction intensity, is not easy to magnetize to saturation, and exhibits excellent temperature stability and flexible frequency characteristics.
