1.Working principle: The vortex flowmeter is based on the Karman vortex principle for flow measurement. When a fluid flows through a non streamlined object perpendicular to its flow direction (such as a vortex generator), two rows of regular vortices are alternately generated on its downstream sides, which are called Karman vortex streets. The frequency of vortices is directly proportional to the flow velocity of the fluid, and the flow rate of the fluid can be calculated by detecting the frequency of vortices.

2.Characteristic

①High accuracy: The measurement accuracy can generally reach ± 1% - ± 1.5%, and can maintain high accuracy over a wide flow range.

②Good repeatability: The repeatability error is usually between ± 0.2% and ± 0.5%, which can stably measure flow rate and has strong data repeatability.

③Wide measurement range: The range ratio can generally reach 10:1-20:1, and some may even be higher, which can adapt to the measurement needs of different flow rates.

④Small pressure loss: Compared with some other flow meters, the pressure loss of vortex flow meters is relatively small, which is conducive to reducing energy consumption and system operating costs.

⑤High reliability: simple structure, no moving parts, not easily worn or damaged, with high reliability and stability, and low maintenance workload.

⑥Widely applicable media: It can measure the flow rate of various media such as liquids, gases, and vapors, and is insensitive to changes in parameters such as temperature, pressure, and viscosity of the media.

3.Selection considerations

①Measurement medium: Clearly determine whether the measured medium is liquid, gas, or vapor, as well as the composition, temperature, pressure, viscosity, and other characteristics of the medium, in order to select suitable sensors and lining materials to ensure the normal operation and measurement accuracy of the flowmeter.

②Flow range: Based on the maximum and minimum flow rates that may occur during actual use, select a suitable range of vortex flowmeter to ensure that the normal flow rate is within the optimal measurement range of the flowmeter, in order to achieve high measurement accuracy.

③Work pressure and temperature: Ensure that the pressure and temperature resistance of the selected flowmeter meet the requirements of on-site working conditions, and avoid damage or inaccurate measurement of the flowmeter due to high pressure or temperature.

④Pipeline size: Select a suitable diameter vortex flowmeter based on the diameter of the pipeline at the installation location. Generally, the diameter of the flowmeter should be the same or similar to the diameter of the pipeline. If the diameter of the pipeline is large but the flow rate is small, a reduced diameter installation method can be considered, but corresponding calculations and adjustments need to be made.

⑤Accuracy requirements: Based on the actual application requirements for flow measurement accuracy, select a vortex flowmeter that meets the accuracy level. The prices of flow meters with different accuracy levels may also vary, and a comprehensive consideration needs to be made between accuracy and cost.

⑥Output signal: Select the appropriate output signal type according to the requirements of the subsequent control system or data acquisition system, such as pulse signal, 4-20mA current signal, RS485 digital signal, etc., in order to achieve effective connection and communication with other devices.
