There are two commonly used classification methods for rebar: one is based on geometric shape, and it is classified or typed according to the cross-sectional shape of the transverse rib and the spacing of the ribs. For example, in the British Standard (BS4449), the rebar is divided into type I, Type II. This classification mainly reflects the grip performance of rebar. The second is to classify (grade) by performance. For example, in the Chinese standard (GB1499), the rebar is divided into three grades according to the strength level (yield point/tensile strength); Steel is divided into 5 categories; British Standard (BS4461) also stipulates several grades of rebar performance test. In addition, rebars can also be classified according to their uses, such as ordinary steel bars for reinforced concrete and heat-treated steel bars for prestressed reinforced concrete.
