Why is compressed air filtration required?
In one cubic foot of atmospheric air, there are millions of particles that are potentially harmful to your machines and equipment. There particles are primary made up of dust, bacteria, viruses, smoke, fumes, hydrocarbons, water, oil and other contaminates derived from human and industrial activities. Roughly 80% of the contaminates are so small that they will easily pass through your compressor's intake filter. When this air is drawn into the compressor intake and compressed to 100 PSIG the concentration of contaminate is increased eight fold. The concentrated contaminates will easily find their way into your process lines, causing frequent and expensive downtime of your pneumatic equipment or adversely affecting the quality of your products. The incorporation of filtration into your compressed air system will produce benefits in both productivity and product quality.
Compressed Air Filter Working Principle
Gravity effect: When the air velocity in the filter is low, most of the oil droplets with a diameter of 20-50um are collected by free fall by gravity before reaching the filter layer. Moreover, the airflow continues to fall and collect as it flows through the filter. The greater the air velocity, the lower its efficiency.
Inertial collision: Generally, suspended particles with a diameter greater than 1um have a large impulse. It is not always consistent with the air flow path, so it will inertially hit the fiber layer. The greater the air velocity, the greater the collision rate.
Direct interception: particles with a diameter of 0.3-1um move with the airflow, and most of them will be intercepted and separated by the fiber layer at 1/2 of the filter element. The smaller the particle, the lower the interception rate.
Penetration: particles with a diameter of less than 0.3um. Because the mass is too small to have the versatility of liquids, they move in an irregular Brownian motion. It is inconsistent with the air flow path, and it is precisely because of this movement that it can be captured by a finer filter layer. The smaller the particles. The more intense the Brownian motion, the greater the chance of catching it.
