The use value and market price of ferrosilicon inoculants vary due to their different indicator contents. The inoculation treatment effect of 45FeSi inoculant is poor, and the cost of using 85FeSi is too high. Therefore, 75FeSi and 72FeSi are commonly used as inoculants in steel mills and foundries now. The Ca and Al in ferrosilicon have a significant impact on the fertility effect, with Ca having a greater influence and strong graphitic ability when it exceeds 0.5%. The aluminum content of 75 silicon iron is 1.5%, and the aluminum content of 72 silicon iron is 2%.
Silicon barium inoculant is mainly used in the production of gray cast iron and ductile iron. Silicon barium inoculant can increase the number of graphite balls when used in ductile iron; Used for gray cast iron, it can reduce the tendency of white casting, refine grain size, promote graphitization, and improve graphite morphology. In addition to improving mechanical properties, silicon barium inoculants also have strong resistance to decay. Silicon barium inoculants are commonly used as inoculants with barium content between 2-4%. Silicon barium inoculants are generally 0.2-0.8mm flow inoculants with particle sizes of 1-3mm and 3-8mm.
 
Method of adding inoculant:
Ductile iron generally has more casting inoculants than gray cast iron. After incubation with molten iron, if the casting time is long and the inoculation amount decreases, the amount of casting inoculant should be increased. Thin walled castings are prone to white spots, and the amount of ferroalloy casting inoculant should be correspondingly increased. When the molten iron contains more slag, the casting inoculant will be wrapped and difficult to melt once it comes into contact with the slag. Therefore, the amount of casting inoculant added should be increased accordingly. Excessive addition of casting inoculant can lead to excessive slag temperature and shrinkage of eutectic cattle in the iron slag. If the inoculant is too large, it cannot evenly fertilize the molten iron;
The unmelted casting inoculant will also be poured into the cavity. If the block is too small, it can easily cause oxidation of the slag and lead to decay; The casting inoculant block used in the flow inoculation method has a small volume, generally ranging from 0.2 to 0.8mm, with an added amount of 0.05% to 0.2%; The block size of the vaccination method is generally required to be ≤ 0.25mm, and the amount added should be ≤ 0.1%; The remaining casting inoculants are usually added in block sizes of 1-10mm, with an addition amount of 0.1%~0.8%. It can be seen that adding casting inoculants correctly during the casting process can achieve good results and effectively improve the quality of castings. Therefore, mastering the method of adding inoculants is essential.
